Mag lt765s Keith Williams 16:56:41
 Hi all,
I have a Mag Innovision LT765S. recently it has begun shutting down on its
own. Not like hibernating , just cutting off. I changed the settings in
Windows to never cut off the monitor. Re loaded the drivers from the
manufacturer. Tried a different video card from the same manufacturer. Still
it will cut off. It also doesn't like to boot up with the computer. ( The
screen pulsates like it was trying to boot up. If I cut it off and let
windows finish booting then cut it on all is fine for a while.) I guess the
different resolutions as the computer boots from bios to windows is messing
it up. I really can't afford another monitor right now. Has anyone sent one
off for repair out of warranty. Is this cost effective. Could this be
something as simple as the power supply going bad. Anyway, any light you
could shed on this subject would be appreciated.
By the way the unit is 2 years old and out of warranty.

Specs:
Soyo P4VSA Motherboard
P4 2 gig
512 Sdram
2- 80 gig hitachi's on a promise raid card
ATI 7000 VE
Phillips psc705 sound card
Running windows 2K service pack 4

TIA
KEith

Too much memory usage with recent catalyst drivers for Ati Radeon 9600 Mobility Olrt 21:03:10
 Hello,

My laptop (Packard Bell Easynote R7723 with ATI Radeon 9600 mobility)
came with version 8.0 of catalyst drivers.
Commit memory charge after Windows XP (SP2) boot was 130 Mo.

I installed the latest catalyst drivers.
Commit memory charge after Windows XP boot jumped to 180 Mo !!!!

I reinstalled the original drivers :
Commit memory charge after Windows XP is 130 Mo.

So my questions are :

1В°) Is this by design that catalyst drivers use so much memory ?
2В°) Is there a way to install only the drivers, ie no ATI Control
Center and things like this...

Thanks for your answers !!

Geforce FX5500 Vs. Radeon 9550 (+ lots of questions) Tropicaldawn 07:49:46
I am a major The Sims 2 fan, but I just can't expierience it fully on
my PC:

Pentium 4 2.6ghz
256mb RAM
32mb integrated graphics

As far as I understand, the processor is fine, it's the other two
that's causing the problem. I've just ordered another 512mb of RAM so
that's that sorted.

However, I still need a new video card.

Living in Ireland, and not having a credit card, my options are
limited.

So basically I have two options:

Radeon 9550

and

Geforce FX5500

I have a few questions:

1.) I have a fair idea how to install memory, is a graphics card more
complicated in any way?

2.) I have a 4X AGP slot, will these cards work?

3.) Will I be able to play The Sims 2 decently with 756mb of RAM
aswel?

4.) What sort of power supply would I need?

OpenGL Alex 21:12:23
 Hi all,

Just want to know are all GF cards OpenGL compatible? As I don't usually see
description saying whether the card is OpenGL compatible from the advert/
review.

Thanks a lot,
Alex

Temperature Pwy 04:12:38
 Merry Christmas to all.

I have a X850 Pro card that I have overclocked to 526/540 in 3d only. (
default 500/500 in 2d.) The temperature gets as high as 70 - 71c. in 3d. Is
this too high? What temperature do you consider to be the limit without
damaging the card?
Thanks for your opinion,

PWY

nVidia GeForce 6600 256mb AGP - Forceware ver 91.31 Tecknomage 16:15:52
Since installing this driver update, every time I boot my system I get
a Tooltip message that "SLI has been disabled." What the F***! SLI
should only be if I had more than one SLI compliant card, which I do
not.

Under 3D Settings, SLI Configuration, there is nothing but a reference
to nVidia WEB site and it looks like a SLI card promo. There is no
way to turn this SLI off.

How do I turn OFF this error message?

Graphic Problem - What Causes This Tecknomage 15:02:32
I hope I'm explaining my problem understandably, here goes...

REF: nVidia GeForce 6600 256mb

This problem takes place in several games but I'm using FEAR as one
example.

The scene is I'm walking on a catwalk above a wherehouse floor. If I
angle my character's view slightly down I should see the cargo on the
floor. The problem, is that in a section of my view, what I see is a
strip of color from the bottom edge of the catwalk in front of me that
stretches out to the wherehouse wall on the left. What it looks (in
the game) like a 4ft strip of spilled streaked gray-brown paint.

If I angle my character's view slightly up, the strip goes away and I
see the wherehouse floor correctly.

Questions:

1) In graphics, is there a term/word for the problem?

2) Are there a graphics card settings that affect this?

3) Is there a WEB site, _with_screenshots_, that describes problems
like this and suggested solutions? nVidia's site is no help.

Thanks

TVout on Forceware 81 vs 91 Biodiode 14:02:00
TVout on Forceware 81 vs 91

I don't know how much of this is hardware dependent, but forceware 91
on my setup, scales mediaplayer TV fullscreen (mirror) output to fit on
BOTH axes, so that widescreen avi will look stupid. Whereas, version 81
fitted it into the X axis and made widescreen look rather letterbox.

Forceware 81 has a deficiency where you can't find any controls to
guarantee that mediaplayer will output to the TV, unless you right
click on a video and select "Play on my->TV". After that it works fine.

Does anyone know how to override the stupid widescreen scaling on
version 91. The switch is probably hidden somewhere, but the newfangled
idiot Control Panel on 91 doesn't show too much.

I'm using the inbuilt 6150 on a A8N-VM motherboard.

Are these problems existent on higher power cards?

Nvidia GeForce 7600GS finally out for AGP Pc Games 13:06:13
Nvidia GeForce 7600GS finally out for AGP

Here is the link for the EVGA version:
http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=256-A8-N542-AX&family=22

This is the definitive upgrade for AGP users like myself.
I clearly remember when a year ago I talked about a 7600
for AGP and most in this group didn't believe me like
many other ideas I defend and now we see it has become a
reality. Again this proves I'm in most instants right.

This is a must buy for AGP users and I'll be one of them.
The price could be better meaning lower but again its a
great card and I think a fair price... around 165 euros
Don't forget this cards is close in performance to a 6800.

Basically any PC Gamer with a AGP system with a card bellow
a 6800 GT should upgrade to this new 7600 GS.

I bet with this card I will not need to upgrade until late
2008 and by then the choice will be for a DX10 card which
now still doesn't exist, so its the exact right time to do
the upgrade.
Spec highlights: 400MHz GPU, 12 pipelines, 800Mhz 256MB
128 bit DDR 2 memory, AGP 8x, and it includes support for
HDTV and its "Vista" Ready.
What more could we ask?
Well the only think I would like for this 7600 GS to have
is support for Windows 98
The only drawback is no support for legacy Windows 98 and
I still have dual boot in my system...
Anyone knows how to make it run in Windows 98?
Its really the only issue I see in this card.

X1600 Antialias at 1920x1080 Will 06:41:40
Will the X1600 correctly antialias an HDTV resolution of 1920x1080 on
Windows XP? If not, what is the minimum ATI card that would handle that
resolution correctly for anti aliasing?

Will the V7100 handle antialias at that resolution under Windows XP?

Autogen Game Objects Creating Shimmering Effect on X1600 Will 06:39:19
I'm using an X1600 on a Pentium 3.6 under Windows XP running Microsoft
Flight Simulator FS2004 and now the demo version of FSX. On both
versions, the X1600 is making every one of thousands of autogenerated trees
shimmer. From altitude it almost looks like they are all moving like a
swarm of angry bees. It looks incredibly ugly, unnatural, and it cannot be
an intended effect. Does anyone have any idea on why this might happen,
and why does it look so bad on the X1600 in particular? On another
system, running RADEON 9800, I don't see this effect nearly as much. Is it
a driver setting, a problem with the X1600 hardware specifically, or a
problem with RADON X series cards in general?

Manufacturer's and price aside, which card is the better performer between
an ATI All in Wonder X800 XT (AGP) or an XFX 7800 GS (AGP)? The XFX I'm
looking at is the one with the 440MHz core and 1.3GHz mem clocks. Or better
yet, if anyone here knows how I can get my grubby lunch hooks on a Gainward
7876-BLISS 7800GS Silent 512MB GS+ in the USA let me know! I'm not quite
ready to upgrade to PCI-E b/c when i do that I'm gonna go with the AM2 or
Core Duo setup as well, and to add I just bought this AGP system not even 1
yr ago just before AM2/Duo was announced. These cards I'm asking about will
be going in an AMD 4800+ X2 system with 2.0 gb of ram. Thanks for any info.

XFX 6800xt AGP low performance... FaNaT1c 05:59:01
 Hi
When I first bought this card from newegg.com it said the minimum PSU
needed was 300w. I have a 480w. When I actually got the BOX it said
minimum of 500w. I still tryed using it, and when I played Counter
strike source I got 20fps instead of 100+ like described. Im just
here typing this to make SURE that the problem is a too-low PSU. I'm
sure I used a bunch of computer terms wrong here :D . Thanks in
advance!

Weird coloured areas appearing on graphics Guest 05:56:50
Recently I've been experiencing some graphical problems. The card runs
fine and there is no slow down, but in some Half-Life 2 games there is
some model stretching (screen1) and coloured dots appearing on models,
in other graphical applications we have some weird coloured sections
(screen2) and in older games there are some issues (screen3).

I've reinstalled my drivers, but nothing changed on that front when the
problems started occuring. Could it be a problem with DirectX or other
graphical software, or is my card dieing?

Screen 1: http://www.phoenixscripts.co.uk/stuff/graphics/screen1.jpg
Taken from counter-strike source, some of the player and weapon models
experience this stretching, with the polygons seemingly stretched off
into the distance. Not all models are affected and hitting the windows
key to exit to the desktop and then returning, fixes any currently
affected models. We can also see some coloured dots appearing on the
models.

Screen 2: http://www.phoenixscripts.co.uk/stuff/graphics/screen2.jpg
Google Earth screenshot showing 2 issues. Firstly we have the problems
on the actual map, the larger green and pink areas and then when the
program is minimized, the fine horizontal green lines appear
everywhere. Some of them weren't even there when I took the screenshot
but you can see they have flooded the picture now.

Screen 3: http://www.phoenixscripts.co.uk/stuff/graphics/screen3.jpg
Team Fortresss Classic, everything works fine when I first enter the
game, but over time you can see green dots on some textures if you look
closely, but then this affect occured, very much like the Google Earth
problems.

My graphics card is a Point of View Geforce 6800 GS and is only a few
months old. I had some overheating problems, but after removing some
paneling I thought that has been fixed. The issues I am having now seem
to happen no matter how long the PC has been on.

Thanks for any help you can provide!
-Steve

ATI .. R.I.P --AMD is droping ATI brand name (?) Pluvious 03:37:44
 http://gear.ign.com/articles/724/724015p1.html

August 7, 2006 - AMD announced today that ATI's days are numbered. All future
products developed by ATI will now ship under the AMD brand name, effectively
ending 21 years of ATI brand-history.

AMD is reportedly anxious to assert that its ATI acquisition is a full take-over
rather than a merger or partnership. What impact the decision will have upon
deepening the AMD-AMD (ATI) vs. Intel-Nvidia divide remains to be seen.

Stupid move in my opinion. But what do I know..

Crossfire Edition Amy L 02:29:55
I am looking at setting up my system with an X1900 crossfire setup. I was
looking around comparing prices and came across this card on Tiger Direct.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1782282&CatId=1826

Is this really a crossfire edition card and not a crossfire card? The
reason I ask is that the picture of the card does not show the crossfire
connector or the box contents do not list the crossfire cable that typically
comes with the x1900 crossfire cards.

Looking for the card at Newegg its [1] alot more than what Tiger Direct is
showing and [2] shows the connector and lists the cable.

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814195001

When I search tiger direct for the model # of the card as shown on newegg
(100-435721) it does bring up the card on the link above.

What am I missing? Is the card at Tiger Direct not the right one?

Amy.
