| Samsung CLP-500 False Waste Toner Bottle Error Messages Steve Foley 11:41:56 |
| | This printer has been working well but recently it stopped and gave the "Waste Toner Bottle full or not installed" message. This was NOT the case, it has hardly been used and the WTB is NOT full. I bought a new one and installed it and the Printer went throught its initialisation routine but then when I tried to print it again stopped with the same message. Again I removed the new WTB, re-installed but same thing happened.
I assume a fault with the WTB sensor. Now is there a way I can fool the sensor into thinking the bottle is installed and empty, which in fact it is. On the old Kyocera FS1500 Monochrome Laser printers the WTB had a foil window which became obscured as it filled. If one glued a piece of kitchen foil over this the sensor was fooled into reading it as empty. One could also send a string from the Command Line to the Printer which re-set the internal counter from 3000 copies to 10000 or whatever one wanted so the WTB Full meassage and shutdown did not occur too soon. Is there any similar Commands one can send to a Samsung CLP-500?
The printer is driven by a Pentium 4 , 2.6GHz with 1GB of RAM running WinXP Pro and using Word XP. It is connected via the USB port but I could change it over to the Centronics Parallel if needed.

| print server: Extended Systems Pocket Pro ESI-2833 manual Lukas Schubert 13:42:29 |
| | Hi Experts,
does anyone have the manual or a linkt to the manual for Extended Systems' print server Pocket Pro ESI-2833?
It's a dongle-like device that can be connected directly to the printer (non-usb) and has an RJ-45-connector and power plug on the opposing side. Sth like a network interface MAC address is sticked to it but i don't know how to get it to work.
Thanks in advance

| Samsung ML-1710P Jg 21:33:42 |
| | Hello,
Recently a friend of mine purchased a Samsung ML-1710P laser printer. He uses the computer simply as a sofisticated typing machine and this makes for a old computer. His specifications are:
Pentium processor, 120 MHz 24MB RAM 1 GB free disk Windows 98(*)
I am not sure about the version of Win98. I know there are no service packs or other updates installed but I'm not sure if it is Win98 Second Edition. The Win98 build is dated 4.10.1998 and it's the portuguese version. Control Panel->System shows version 07200-OEM-0071355-18937.
The printer installed correctly (through the parallel port, the PC has no USB ports), at least apparently. It prints the test page correctly and *most* of the strict text documents (from notepad).
If trying to print from Word (version from Office 97) it prints correctly *sometimes*.
The problem is that, about half of the time you try to print a document, it prints instead this message:
INTERNAL ERROR - FALSE POSITION: 0x74830 (4777232) SYSTEM: H6FWSIM/xl_image LINE: 467 VERSION: QPDL 1.16 10-29-2003
The message is always the same (printed on paper) except the position field which varies.
The only thing about this configuration is that the computer only has 24MB RAM instead of the 32MB "required" according to the advisable minimum system requirements. Somehow, it doesn't seem that this is the problem though.
If anyone can help, please post your thoughts here. If possible, please email me too at fanlistguy@yahoo.co.uk.
Thank you very much,
John Guy

| EPSON CX4600 printer won't print Lalu 06:21:32 |
| | I have noticed several posts saying that their Epson CX4600 printer won't print after changing the printer cartridges. I'm having the same problems. I've tried cleaning and unplugging the printer for a time, but it still doesn't work. It started when I changed the black cartridge. I couldn't get any black to come out. Eventually the colored cartridges needed to be changed and now I get a blank page when printing. The monitor shows that I used half of my black cartridge, but I don't see where it could have gone. I'm wondering if the monitoring software is wrong and how I would "reset" it to show that there is still a full black cartridge.
Can anyone help?

| Epson Printer: Leave It On Or Turn It Off? Alan Smithee 03:43:55 |
| | I know the conventional wisdom with Epson Printers is to turn them off when not in use, but, it seems when I go into a routine of turning off the printer my ink counters start nose-diving. When I leave the printer on it seems like my ink counters stay up a lot longer. Am I just imagining things? Epson R300 printer. Thx. p.s. Is there a utility which will automatically powers off an Epson printer? Similar to a screen saver? Or does the printer have enough smarts to park the print head? Thx again. Merry Christmas Happy New Year.

| I need to replace my Canon S630, but with what? Melissa 16:58:37 |
| | My Canon S630 has just quit on me, This printer has been a real workhorse. I am sad to see it go.
I would like to replace it with something comparable and maybe even better, I would like to stick with Canon, but would consider other brands. I am a graphic designer, so color and text are important to me.
I need to be able to print on card/cover stock as well. I print photos occaisionally Ink replacement must be comparable - $45-50.00 for full replacement of ink cartridges. I probably replace the ink tanks 2 - 3x a year. I just bought a Canon scanner, so I have no problems with Canon. I want to spend around $200.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

| Inkjet, separated colors, text only - advice, pls? BigBen 16:53:58 |
| | Hi All,
I guess the tittle just about says it all...
I need an inkjet printer, for text printing only, with color printing, with the capacity to buy first the colors that I use most.
And, please, a printer that doesn't suddenly stop working at all when one of the colors runs out - or at least gives me a good early warning of which color is about to run out, so that I don't have to wonder why the hell the printer has stoped working, or I have to rush out to buy an ink cartridge in the nmiddle of a rush job
Of course, the whole point, of having the separated colors, is ... making it cheaper than having to through away most of the color ink I still have in the 3color catridge I presently have, and have given up using - on a HP psc 1315.
So, reliable, cheap to run, good enough for text, and inkjet, are my requirements.
TIA,
Ride to ride another day. jbr

| Paper prices continue to rise Guest 16:14:57 |
| | COMMENT Recycle recycle they say! Yet paper continues to rise in price and yet the price of scrap paper is just about worthless. Mabon Dane
STORY Paper prices to increase; Bilt, JK Paper hike costs
New Delhi, July 18 (PTI): Paper prices are headed for an increase again with leading manufacturers Bilt and JK Paper revising prices upwards due to rise in input costs and firm demand in the market.
"Already in the beginning of this month we have increased prices of coated paper by Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per tonne and now we are looking at revising the prices for uncoated paper as well," JK Paper Managing Director Harsh Pati Singhania said.
He said the company would finalise the increase in price of uncoated paper by about Rs 500 per tonne next month.
The price rise was on account of rising input costs, mainly wood and bamboo, along with other raw materials and chemicals, he said.
"Also, the demand for our products from the market has been firm and we have to keep that in consideration while we revise the prices," Singhania added.
Another leading paper manufacturer, Bilt also said it was in the process of implementing its price hike for both coated and uncoated papers.
"For the uncoated paper we have increased prices by Rs 600 per tonne, while that of the coated by about Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,100 per tonne," a BILT official said.
In the beginning of this year, BILT had hiked the price of its uncoated paper by Rs 750 per tonne. The BILT official also said strong demand from markets coupled with rising input cost were responsible for the price revision.
Asked if the revised prices would affect demand, Singhania said, "We do not forsee any dip in demand. In the last 12 months the paper industry has seen increased prices but the demands have been robust".

| Networkable all in one scanner/printer copier? Guest 15:12:06 |
| | Do they exist? We have a Sharp AL-1651CS here at the office and its pretty nice. I figured great, I finally get a scanner. Nope. It has to be on a JetDirect Port and thus I can't use the scanner functions. Is there a printer like this that can connect to an ethernet and still have scanningf functions from a few different PCs?

| R300 - strange nozzle pattern - Clog? Martin 14:50:58 |
| | This is probably more for Art to try and puzzle for me but I have an Epson R300 which at some point suffered from being left in a hot room for a week or so..
Net result was a somewhat clogged head which was relatively easy to clean in general but the Cyan nozzles are now apparently fouled somehow and causing me some concern.
I originally assuming the problem was dried ink on the actual printhead itself which was acting as a sort of part blockage which results in the ink redirecting in an odd pattern or something in the head itself but to date I've had no luck clearing it despite trying:
- Gentle injection of head cleaning fluid directly into the ink recepticle - Cleaning the base of the print head using lint free cloth drawn back and forth under the head.. Also tried this running the head over the cloth in the pit... It shows some ink is being disolved but doesn't clear the problem.
Net result is I get a nozzle check like this: http://www.continuousink.info/forum/gallery2.php?g2_itemId=316
The exact same issue is plaguing an R200 which has the same problem, again with the Cyan and has the same sort of nozzle check..
I should note that it does seem to improve somewhat when cleaning is attempted but never gets any better than what you see in that linked picture.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions..

| Problem with black color Craig 14:09:30 |
| | I recently noticed a color problem with my 4-month old Canon i9900 printer. When I printed an image of our black cat on i9900 printer, the black color (fur) came out to be in dark blue color instead of black color. When I printed the same image on Canon ip4000, the color came out correctly, black. So it is clear that i9900 printer has a problem with black color. I performed print head alignment and deep cleaning/nozzle checking repeatedly, but the color problem on the print remained the same. When I checked the print head, it is clean. I do not see any overflowing of cyan/photocyan ink. Because of this color problem, the overall print looks slightly bluish tinted. Could someone advise me how to correct the black color problem? | USB to parallel adapters... How do they work? WipeOut 13:19:34 |
| | Hi,
I have searched around and can't seem to find the answer to this..
I have a PC that only has one parallel port and already has a printer attached to it.. I now have to add a till slip printer to the same PC that is also parallel..
PCI parallel port add on cards are pretty hard to come by and I cant really wait because its quite urgent that it gets done..
So my other option is to use a USB to parallel adapter.. My concern is that I don't know how this works..
For example on a Windows XP PC will the adapter emulate an LPT2 port so the driver software has no idea that the printer is not connected directly to a parallel port??
If anyone can shed some light on how these adapters actually work and if there are any know issues with them that I need to look out for I would appreciate it..
Thanks

| Brother MFC 210c, 420c or 640c Manual Duplex Printing Jack Gillis 02:47:13 |
| | I am thinking of buying a Brother MFC 210c, 420c or 640c multifunction printer. I now have a Brother HL 1440 Laser Printer and its driver has a manual duplex option which makes two sided printing a breeze. I have not been able to find out from the Brother on-line documentation whether the drivers for those printers offer the same type of manual duplex printing. Brother has not responded to my email question on the subject.
Can anyone here tell me if the feature is offered by the drivers for any of the printers?
Thank you.
