| Pictures and Printing William L. Hartzell 19:08:41 |
| | Sir:
I scanned into my computer a 3 by 5 picture using Tame/2 at a resolution of 1200 dpi. My thinking was that I print this picture at 1200 dpi on a 8 by 10 sheet using PMview fit the page print option. Tame/2 successfully created the 5360 by 4880 pixel tiff file and Pmview imported it fine. But when it came time to print, PMview would not successfully create a print job. It would get about half way through the creation and then hang for a few minutes and then close the job, which the spooler immediately deleted as malformed. The only way I could get PMview to print the image was to first reduce the image down to a 1200 by 1600 image and then print that. To say that I am disappointed would be an understatement, to lose the detail that was captured in the scan.
Well, I went to the evil empire machine to see what it could do. Not to my surprise, it failed also. So are we to consider scanning photos in at high resolution a waste of time? Has anyone found a different solution? Faxview did not display the image after scanning, so I did not try printing from it. -- Bill Thanks a Million!

| GIMP help Pierre Jelenc 11:28:52 |
| | There is a GIMP 2.2.8 at Hobbes that was posted a month ago. Since it's a rather formidable download for my poor modem, I'd like to ask whether this is worth my trying.
It is said to require EMX, gettext-runtime-0.14.5, XFree86/OS2-4.5.0, glib-2.6.5, atk-1.9.0, pango-1.8.1, gtk-2.6.8, fontconfig-2.3.2, libexif-0.6.12, libart_lgpl-2.3.17, libpng-1.0.18, jpeg6b, tiff34
Of those I have the emx package already installed.
Can I use HOBLink instead of XFree86?
What are the rest of the required packages? Are they things I need to locate separately or do they come with the 11.2Mb of the GIMP package?
Thanks,

| Synchronize utility? Al Savage 09:02:03 |
| | For several years, I've been using Daniel Hellerstien's COPYDIR REXX v1.16b utility to synchronize some drives on my network. It is highly configurable, so I can include and exclude whole directory trees to be sychronized, and files with newer dates on either drive get mirrored to the other. I can also exclude certain filenames and directories (in my case, anything that begins with the letters "TEMP").
Lately, COPYDIR has begun not working so well, giving errors such as:
Error (other error) copying M:\ftp\Nissan\SD22\Diesel_Compression_Gauge_05b.jpg G:\ftp\Nissan\SD22\Diesel_Compression_Gauge_05b.jpg
without further explanation. This is Not Good. Daniel does not seem to have a newer version available, and v1.16b is from 2002.
Is there a(nother) configurable file/directory synchronize utility available for OS/2?

| download speed dropped Guest 02:54:21 |
| | For some reason, my download speed from the net has dropped from 6M+ to about 2.5M. This is with eCS, Comcast, a Motorola SB5100 modem, and a Linksys WRT54G router. I've made no hardware changes, or messed with any TCPIP settings. Downloads remain 6M+ (actually, above 7M) when using Win98SE. Testing is done at blt.speakeasy.net.
Any ideas on what I can do to get my normal connect speed back?
Thanks,
Alan
