| ECC with K8N Albin Dzurnak 02:45:39 |
| | Dear All;
Anyone has ECC working with K8N or K8N Deluxe?
ECC is enabled in BIOS but AMD CPUInfo tool says: DIMM ECC Enable: no.
Does it mean ECC is not functioning?
I have 512MB Kingston ECC memory in, running at 200MHz. The memory model recommended by the motherboard manual.
Any input is welcome, Albin.

| K8N Neo4 Platinum + 1 GB CHEAP Ebay dimms... Andrea Parenti 13:23:55 |
| | Has anyone tried cheap Ebay 1GB dimms on this mobo?
They look like this: http://img434.imageshack.us/img434/6199/newram12zm.jpg I took the image from: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=936638&page=1&pp=20
It seems many nForce 4 MoBo have problems in reading the correct size, and give variable results: bios reads only 512 MB, no boot, no boot only if stiks are used in pairs... Dual channel doesn't seem to work for most people.
Thanks to everyone!

| 661v31 Yvonne 15:12:11 |
| | Hi everyone!
I wonder if anyone know where I can get a manual or some information about a motherboard I have. It is a 661v31 and from the information I get on internet it is a Shuttle, is that right?
I need to know what memory and CPU it can take. Can it take 256mb sdram? Can it take a PIII 667mhz or a PIII 866mhz? I guess not, but I think I saw some information about that a couple of months ago.
I have tested the mainboard for the first time today to see if it works at all. I did put a PII 233 mhz cpu in it. At startup I then heard a beep and it showed Only PII 200mhz on the screen.
I would be grateful if somebody could help me?
Thanks Yvonne

| | 1.6 Ghz Intel P4 350 Watt Power supply 512 DDR ram Gigabyte mobo 8IE800
Ok, they called me up, I came over and they said that the monitor died.
I looked, power was running through the computer, mouse was on and everything. Changed the monitors, it work... an hour later it died, back to square one. then I changed the power supply,. thinking the 5V was acting up, since maybe the 12V worked so everything inside of the case worked except now the mouse, keyboard and montor are off.
So I get a new power supply throw it in, hook it up and it works. 2 hours later it died again. now heres my question before I go buy more parts. Qould this be a CPU problem? or Motherboard problem. I've heard that it could be either or. now how can I go about testing this with this being the only crappy pentinum I have access to?
Thanks

| boards Nick Carter 19:41:49 |
| | Hi, I`m a recent convert to Gigabyte from Abit. I can say that their website information is not as good as Abit`s and it remains to be seen if their mobos will be as permanently reliable as my Abits have. My new Gigabyte 965-DS3 board is working well at the moment with no snags.
I have one technical question though, it does not seem possible to use a DVD drive connected in DOS. It can be booted to DOS from a bootable CD but the DOS driver(oakcdrom.sys) says that it does not find any drives yet they work with older chipsets fine in DOS. Does the 965 chipset require a different driver?
In case you wonder, I use PQDI backup in DOS. It works every time and obviates the need for system restore which only works occasionally. If I can`t read CDs in DOS then I have to keep the backups on the HD!

| ECS P4 Shankarunni 20:23:45 |
| | I just set up a system with a P4M800PRO-M V1.0A M/B, and a Pentium D 805 (dual-core) CPU.
For some reason, the OS is only able to see one core of the dual-core CPU. I have looked at their site, and flashed my BIOS to their latest available BIOS, but that hasn't helped - I still see only one core. (Tried both Linux (2.4. 21) and Win 2K Wkstn - both show me one core with two hyperthreaded "CPUs", instead of 2 and 4).
Does this ring a bell for anyone? Is there something I can do with the (AMI) BIOS here? Any diagnostics? Any secret screens that can show me what it's doing to set up the cores?

| A&V 137 GB limitation DewTheNet 20:06:06 |
| | I have the original A7V w/ Athlon Thunderbird, it has integrated ATA 100 controller.
Recently I purchased a WDC 300GB hard drive, I'm aware of the 137GB limit so I flashed my bios to the latest 1011, the ATA 100 controller picks up the drive correctly but windows only sees 128GB, I'm runnign windows XP SP2 so it should pick up the full drive.
When I connect the drive to the regular EIDE controller, everything is good, windows picks up the entire drive capacity, and yet I'm running the latest BIOS.
What can I do to remedy this?
Thanks in advance for your help.

| mb and dvd/cd writer. Swiftflo 18:30:45 |
| | Hi everyone. Can anyone help. I recently rebuilt my pc, fitting the P5B mb, sata hd's and conroe processor. I retained my existing asus dvd/cd writer which worked perfectly with my previous P4T533-C mb. I have reinstalled xp and all updates along with all my other software. My problem is that the dvd/cd writer no longer recognizers disk's when one is placed in the holder. I can no longer use "send to" or "copy to" to copy files from My Computer to either cd or dvd. The ony way I can make copies of files is to use Nero. Thanks in advance.

| nVidia's Storage driver (A8N-E) StainlessSteelRat 18:11:34 |
| | Hi folks,
I've just updated my nForce drivers for Ethernet.
As I think I've solved my BSODding problem, caused by an overheating nForce chipset, I might try the SMBus driver as well.
I noticed though that within the nForce driver install there's another driver called "Storage". Is this the IDE driver, or something related to RAID?
I'm not using RAID, so would rather not install things that aren't necessary.
Thanks

| | I can't install anything for nothing, the bios overrides any attempt to install win, just says missing operating system over and over, bios sees the drive, winxp writes to it on the first install phase, wont boot hd after reboot. Epox won't answer me how to fix this. Changing the boot order around seems to do nothing says the same thing no matter what, need help about to rip my hair out. has a sempron 3300 chip, does this board need a 64 bit operating system ?

| flash ecs k7s5a Kkj 15:36:08 |
| | I am trying to flash my ecs k7s5a (rev ??) with "HRTIBIOS v9.00" rel. 11/06/2004, but it won't work! Rather the 'press ctrl+home' doesn't seem to do much. I may enter a screen with a choice to boot either from drive A:\ 'controlled by ROM-BIOS' or drive C:\ 'controlled by ez-bios'. I try drive A:\ but only get messages that the disk (containing the file AMIBOOT.ROM) cannot boot, and then the PC boots from drive C:\ into windows.
What to do? I recently bought a larger (160gb) HD which I would love to get running properly (meaning all 160 gb! - at present only about 128 gb shows up)
Please...pretty please with sugar on top... help!!!

| Have some MB/OS questions? Fred Hebert 12:10:15 |
| | I am building a new system to replace my current system. I am looking at the GA-965P-DS3 with a Intel Core 2 Duo. I hope to reuse much of my existing system, case, ps, drives, most of which have been upgraded in the last year to try to get a little more life out of my old system...
The big question that just dawned on me is the OS. I have a XP Pro (SP2) upgrade version that I was planning on using, but The Duo is a 64 bit processor. Will it work? Do I need XP 64? Will XP be able to support the GA-965-DS3 or is it going to be a nightmare loading to OS?
My last 2 MBs were GigaByte and I have been very happy, especailly in the area of overclocking...
Any info would be appreciated.

| Sony DV-camera FireWire not connecting x64 Niklas Engfelt 09:49:40 |
| | I have Windows 2003 x64 edition, which is basically the same as XP x64. I have a Sony DCR-HC90E DV-camera, and when I connect it with FireWire, it only comes up as "61883 Class Bus Device" with a yellow exclamation mark.
Any ideas why it is not shown properly? I have tried Pinnacle 10.1 and Nero Vision 7 and they cannot find any sources. (of course when it is a yellow exclamation mark)

| Wake-On-Lan Setup Question Guest 09:24:07 |
| | Im trying to get wake-on-lan to work, Ive enabled it in my gigabyte motherboard's bios. My NIC supports it and since the motherboard is PCI 2.2 compliant I *dont* have a cable running from the NIC's WOL connector to the motherboards WOL connector.
In the router, I have selected to forward anything on PORT 9 (UDP), but the problem is it doesnt allow me to forward to a MAC address only to an IP address. Since the router automatically assigns a new ip address to the computer I want to wake, I dont know what the ip address will be. I can set my computer to a static ip address, but wont this cause a conflict with the dhcp of the router?
Alterantively, I can assign an aribitrary IP address in the router (within the local LAN IP range), but does a fixed IP address exist in the NIC itself?
Im using this to test: http://stephan.mestrona.net/wol/ http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/wake-on-lan-gui.aspx
Thanks!

| Problem with P4S800D-E BIOS ChrisH 07:30:01 |
| | Got a problem with a P4S800D-E board - I think it's toast but thought I'd ask...
Symptom: Machine locked up loading running XP, just simply froze. On re-boot wouldn't even POST. CPU fan spins up, disks spin up, graphics card fan spins up - but no BIOS screen. Shuts off with 4 sec hold on Off button.
Diagnosed it as corrupt BIOS, couldn't flash so ordered new BIOS chip. Installed it and it booted fine, checked XP out and everything seemed OK. Re-booted and won't POST again. BIOS corrupt again...?
Stripped machine down, now using bare board (out of case) with graphics and floppy drive only. Different (known good) PSU attached. Still won't POST.
Took a risk (!) and hot-flashed the corrupt BIOS chip using a good chip from another machine. Seemed to work OK as it booted after the flash. Shut down and it booted again. Second re-start and BIOS dead again (!). Didn't want to risk another hot flash as it seemed to be killing chips and I don't have another spare.
So what's the most likely cause of this? It's a real shame as it has good RAM, a 478 P4 3GHz and an 850XT AGP card which are useless for any new board I can buy... I do have another BIOS chip in the mail to me but the prospects of getting it working look poor....

| SY-KT600 Memory Problem Guest 06:10:56 |
| | I have had the SY-KT600 Dragon Plus running for a year or more with an Athlon XP 3200+ and 3 each Kingston KVR400X64C25/512. The problem is all of a sudden I began to have reboots during Windows XP startup. I ran Memtest-86 and it identified an endless list of memory problems. I tested each stick of memory individually with no errors. I can put two memory sticks in at a time in any of the three slots and no error but if I install 3 sticks I get an error with Memtest-86. I think that proves each stick is ok and that each slot is ok. Any suggestions?
