| DVD Authoring Problem Prince of Orange 14:10:42 |
| | I'm no stranger to DVD authoring, but I'm having a problem I can't resolve. I'm trying to author a single-layer DVD that contains 1 VTS. It consists of 3 videos, a couple of motion menus, and 1 slideshow. (This is the first time I've tried creating a slideshow, so I'm thinking this may be the problem.) I'm using DVD Lab to author, and I'm using its built-in slideshow creator.
When I compile using DVD Lab 1.53, it seems to compile properly, but the resultant DVD is damaged. Nero won't burn it, stating that there's a DVD reallocation error. If I try to open the disc using DVD Shrink, I get an Invalid Data error ('Overlapped I/O Operation in progress')
Now, if I take the exact same structure and compile using DVD Lab 2, the compiling is successful and can be burned with Nero and opened with DVD Shrink. However, when I try to play it on my DVD player, each menu jerks up and down in a rhythmic manner.
Can anyone help me with this one?
Thanks, Bob

| Freeware DVD authoring software? Kovie 12:14:40 |
| | I'm trying to create DVDs playable on standard home DVD players from existing footage I recently captured from DV into DV-AVI format using Microsoft Movie Maker 2. I'm ok using MMM2 to do all the editing as I'm not trying to do anything fancy, and I already have decent DVD burning apps, so all I need (I think) is software to do the authoring and rendering, leaving me with DVD image files that can then be burned onto DVD-R.
Are there are decent freeware apps that will allow me to do this, that aren't disabled unless you buy the full version? In the long run I'll probably want to buy full-featured software to allow me to do more sophisticated editing and authoring, but time and budget constraints force me to look into free solutions for now. Again, nothing fancy, just the basics to convert existing DV-AVI movies into burnable DVD image files that can be played on home DVD players.
Thanks! (Sorry for the cross-posts but I wasn't sure where to post this.)

| DVD-R in Sylvania SSR90V4 Rick Langston 20:35:09 |
| | Sam's had a whole pile of these units. I picked one up.
It claims to record on DVD-R and DVD-RW media. I tried (new, unused) Verbatim DVD-R discs that work fine in my Panasonic DMR-E75V unit, but they are rejected by the Sylvania.
Has anyone else had any experience with these units?

| Tivo to Go wireless question Guest 21:15:58 |
| | I tried one of the unapproved wirless access points- a USB gadget from an off-brand company. Tivo didn't notice it was connected, and only offered me phone line, no network detected. I figured that all USB wirless points are equivalent. didn't work, but I still wonder if I buy the approved product, will it work? How many people have success configuring the wireless TTG network? anyone do it with another wireless hardware? Thanks DoctorJ

| Can't Figure Out How To Change From CH 3 To Ch 4 Guest 21:51:53 |
| | I suck when if comes to figuring this stuff out and in light of the fact that I have not had a vcr in years and the last one I had was a decade old and my tv is older then that well you get the idea. Bought an Allegro ABV441 at BB for $59 and I can all though I can get the thing ( barely ) up and running I can not figure out how to change the default from CH 3 to Ch 4. The myriad of controls on the remote and the techno speak in the flimsy manual is giving me a head ache. Any help appreciated.

| LiteOn LVD 2002 hangs on mp3 and DivX Andrei Stebakov 10:53:02 |
| | Hi,
Does anyone else have the problem with the player? I got the latest firmware so it must be the hadrware problem with my particular player. It doesn't hand when it plays audio CDs. I called the cutstomer support but they said it's the first time they hear the complaint. When it hangs I need to unplug it to reset, the power-on button just doesn't respond in this case. I also noticed that it hangs more often when it has played for some time and the engine is hot. Just wondering if there is any remedy for this?
Thanks in advance, Andrew

| Toshiba Buys Into HVD Company; Optware. HD-DVD ===> HVD migration? Blue Days ahead for Sony? Air Raid 20:09:29 |
| |
Toshiba invests in holographic disc firm HVD to be future of HD DVD?
Toshiba has invested in Optware, the company developing a holographic optical disc claimed to offer significantly greater storage capacity than next-generation formats like Toshiba's own, HD DVD.
Toshiba was one of four companies who together pumped $14m into Optware earlier this month. The other investors are Japanese banks and venture capital companies.
Optware's proposed Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD) is the same size as a DVD but holds more than 1TB of information - more than 200 times the capacity of a typical DVD. HVD is faster too, Optware claims, reading data at 1Gbps, 40 times DVD's throughput.
HVD uses a colinear system - essentially the reference and read laser beams are projected along the same axis rather than at an angle through a single objective lens. The upshot is a much simpler system that's better suited to disc media, is smaller and more compatible with DVD and CD.
It's that compatibility which attracted Toshiba's interest, according to the company's HD DVD Promotion Division chief, Hiroharu Satoh, in a statement.
"HVD has a glittering promise to be a future optical recording media which promises our customers smooth migration from HD DVD," he added.
HVD is backed by half a dozen consumer electronics firms, including Fuji Photo Film, who together formed the HVD Alliance in February this year.
The Alliance, working with Europe-based standards-defining body ECMA, is developing specifications for HVD-ROM and HVD-RW products with a view to submitting completed specifications to the ISO by the end of next year.

| Codecs Updates Bob 17:06:24 |
| | I am considering updating my codecs with
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.56
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/KLite_Mega_Codec_Pack/1080441198/1/
I have been advised to uninstall all existing codecs.
1) How would I go about that? Some installations offer uninstallers but not all, especially the applications which installed their own codecs.
2) Why uninstall any codecs in the first place? Why not just overwrite the old ones with the new ones in the K-Lite pack?

| Where can i buy 16 ohm Surround Sound speakers from? Gyro 15:37:08 |
| | At the rear of our hifi there's outputs for surround sound speakers but the manual says to use 16 ohm surround speakers.
What would happen if i connected 8 ohm speakers to those outputs? because 8 ohm speakers are easy to find.
Btw, i'm in Perth but ordering online is fine. The speakers can't be too big because it's all got to fit into a bookshelf type entertainment unit. Say, 25cm wide x 30cm high x 25cm deep, or there abouts for each speaker.
cheers.

| Optimum amount of shows per DVDR? Timmy2000 12:16:30 |
| | Okay - I'm downloading a season of a well known TV series, that's not currently on DVD.
There are 27 Episodes, AVI format and all about 113mb each.
I'll convert them to DVD using ConvertXtoDVD, but what I'd like to know is, how many episodes to put on each DVD? What's the optimum amount before compression starts kicking in again to fit a DVD5?
Cheers

| MPG2 files to edit and burn to DVD Lps-Au 11:35:27 |
| | My hardware/software produces MPG2 files when I record free to air TV (PAL). I want to edit the file/s (remove advertisements etc.) then convert and burn to DVD so I can view them with a normal DVD player /TV.
Windows Movie maker can't import the file after processing it for several minutes. TMG has error report that 36 fields is too long and bit rate of 1500 kbps exceeds standard. Rad Video tools also fails or at least I don't know how to get the results needed.
I realize that compression will be needed to fit the file/s to 4.7 Gb DVD but I can't even get to that stage. Any help would be most appreciated.

| New update issues..... Scott Peterson 08:39:58 |
| | Since the summer 2006 update went in all my transfers end with a screen that says "Transfer Interrupted. -- the transfer has been temporarily interupted. The X dvr or Y dvr may have been unplugged or restarted or theere may be a problem with the network".
This comes at the end of the recording.
Also, I wonder what idiot decided that the program to record option should be changed to Find Programs.
....and why go to all the trouble of putting an X next to programs that are being deleted. It's shown for about 2 seconds.

| Review website for flat screen TV's Guest 07:37:15 |
| | Hi
Can anybody tell me a good website that reviews the latest flat screen TV's? It's a maze out there, ideally I would like to compare specs etc. I'm looking to spend under 1000 ($2000) for, say, a 32 inch model with as many ports on the back as possible (inc DVB-T "freeview" and anologue receiver).
Googling produces nothing of substance in my eyes. I'm based in the UK.
Cheers
